Last night I learned that a close friend and member of my temple was killed in a hit and run accident. He was very close to my husband and they often joked that they shared a brain.
This was the first sudden death we have had in our community. We have lost a few to illness, but none in a sudden violent death like this.
I have to take my hat off to the local SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) of which he and his wife were members. They have rallied around the widow and help coordinate meals and made sure that she has plenty of people around her with out overwhelming her. Another good friend that performed their wedding will also be perfoming the public funeral, but our temple is also planning a more pagan style memorial for folks who can't make the funeral or aren't comfortable with mundane funerals.
There are so few pagan resourse for dealing with death and funerals. I think that this is a topic that many pagans avoid, but I feel that it is something that needs more attention so that we do not get caught off gaurd when we are called upon to deal with it.

Everyone has a to do list: take out trash, clean the litter box, leave milk out for the brownies, etc.
Last night I was thinking about what I want to accomplish for me in the next few months. I thought I'd share my list of projects.
Writing more for one of the three cookbooks in progress. Designing and constructing my ready to embellish goddess dolls. Beading and embellishing my fiber art goddess dolls and jewelry. Working on several Quilts: "Petroglyph Turtle, Traffic Chakras, and Message Quilt." Designing a steampunk costume for my husband, daughter and myself.

I am currently preping for The Temple of Hagia Sophia's Women's Group on Friday. The topic is "The Many Faces of the Femine Divine: The Bitch Goddess".
Events kicked off with a Fire Puja (Lalita of a 1000 Powers). This was an actual Vedic Puja and the first Vedic Ceremony of any kind I had every attended. Even though much of the ritual was in Sanskrit, it was very moving and meaningful.
Saturday and Sunday we met from 9-6 with a break for lunch.
The classes focused on the Great Feminine and how that principle is so very basic in Vedic Hinduism.
Merry Meet & Welcome to the Urban Pagans!
